An inmate who escaped from the minimum-security tent facility in Canyon County Sunday has been captured.
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Abel Garcia climbed over the exterior fence during his evening outdoor recreation period. Garcia then climbed into a vehicle waiting for him, which took off.
The driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Bobbie Guevara was arrested for assisting in an escape and resisting and obstructing officers.
Garcia was arrested Monday in Emmett. He faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, obstruct and delay, burglary, and more. He will also face additional charges of felony escape.
“This is the third escape we’ve had from our tent facility in the last year and it’s simply ridiculous,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “This tent structure was never meant to house prisoners 24 hours a day, so it’s not surprising that we’ve had three such escapes. It’s time our county looks for long term solutions to address our jail issues once and for all.”
