The police chief for the Emmett Police Department was taken to a local hospital after he was rear-ended by a semi-truck Thursday afternoon.
Idaho State Police investigating the crash say it happened just after 1 p.m. on Highway 16 near South Johns Avenue.
KBOI-2-TV reports Gary Scheihing was driving a marked police unit when he was hit from behind.
Scheihing was taken to St. Alphonsus in Boise. Police say his injuries were non-life threatening.
In the car with him was his K-9 Roscoe. Roscoe was taken to the local veterinarian, and later put down due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
ISP is still investigating.
