Yes, I Will Be There Opening Weekend

I was only 5 years old when the first Star Wars movie came out.  That’s when my imagination went crazy, and I became Han Solo for the next several years.

My older brothers fed into my Star Wars obsession, and I can tell you that may have been a mistake.  You can get into plenty of trouble pretending to blast Stormtroopers to bits.  My Mom was never happy with that little game indoors.

I had a crash on Princess Leia.  I don’t recall any nightmares about Darth Vader, but I won’t rule that out.  I did not have an X-Wing fighter, choosing instead to fly the Millenium Falcon.  Star Wars was my life, and it was a happy one.

Years later when the Empire Strikes Back came out, Han stole a kiss from Princess Liea….. And  I want to thank Amy Morris for Playing Star Wars with me.   (She says: I love you.   I say: : I know.)

Return of the Jedi was released in 1983.  I was still pretty young, but I remember getting in line to see it and being so uptight because it was supposed to be the last movie.  George Lucas did help out by releasing books, video games. etc. etc.  I would love to know how much money I have actually spent on Star Wars “things” in my life.  By the way, I’m not done.

I’m not going to dress up, and I won’t bring a lightsaber to the movie.  But my inner child is geeked out of his mind right now.

May the force be with you.
