A couple of stories jumped off the page at me this week. Have a look.
- An astrophysicist says he may have found evidence of alternate or parallel universes by looking back in time to just after the Big Bang more than 13 billion years ago. While mapping the so-called “cosmic microwave background,” which is the light left over from the early universe, scientist Ranga-Ram Chary found what he called a mysterious glow, the International Business Times reported. Chary, a researcher at the European Space Agency’s Planck Space Telescope data center at CalTech, said the glow could be due to matter from a neighboring universe “leaking” into ours, according to New Scientist magazine. “Our universe may simply be a region within an eternally inflating super-region,” scientist Chary wrote in a recent study in the Astrophysical Journal.
Why is this so interesting: I watch Start Trek. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fFoWjAbn58
- American teenagers spend more time using electronic media than they spend sleeping, being in school, or being around their parents and teachers. A new report by Common Sense Media says teens spend nine hours a day watching videos, movies, and TV, playing video games, reading, listening to music, and checking and sharing on social media. The report says that nine-hour total doesn’t include time spent using media at school or doing homework.
My response to this story: No kidding. Somebody paid money to study this?
- On December 17th, the new Star Wars movie is set to be released in the Treasure Valley at Cinnemark Theatres. Cinemark is looking to make sure the environment is safe, and says they will not allow face coverings, face paint, or simulated weapons — including light sabers — in the buildings. The reason for the ban is most likely following some high profile and deadly incidents across the country at movie theatres.
My thoughts: OK, safty first, I get it. Now if I could just get a few tickets: https://youtu.be/sGbxmsDFVnE
