Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney is stepping down to take a job with the US Justice Department.

Raney told commissioners in a letter today that he would step down on April 30th.
With the Justice Department, he will work as a “problem solver” for sheriff’s offices around the country.
Names being mentioned as a replacement for Raney include Captain Stephen Bartlett and Major Ron Freeman.
