Several media outlets are reporting Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl of Hailey will be charged with desertion. NBC says it has been told by defense officials that it is likely that Bergdahl will avoid prison by being given consideration for the 5 years he spent in captivity of the Taliban. Bergdahl could be denied more than $300,000 dollars in back pay and bonuses and be reduced in rank to at least private first class. Asked to confirm the reports, Bergdahl's attorney, Eugene Fidell, tells 670 KBOI News he has no comment.
Idaho Senator Jim Risch tells 670 KBOI's Nate Shelman Pentagon officials told him, there is no decision yet on Bergdahl's case.
"They say the state of play is that the investigation has been completed, that it's all been turned over to the general. They deny that the general has reached a decision."
Senator Risch says that the general could've already made the decision and told someone but he hasn't done it officially at the Pentagon.
