The culmination of the successful football season with another Fiesta Bowl Championship was quite an unexpected boost for Boise State Football. Head Coach Bryan Harsin was shoved into the national scene, and was a finalist for the prestigious Bear Bryant Award as the top coach in college football. TCU's Gary Patterson ended up winning the award, but the fact that Harsin was one of three finalists in his first year on the job here, was impressive.
Harsin was named the number one coach in a first season at his school. His 12 wins were by far the most for a first year coach. Next up, of course, will be national letter of intent day in early February. The Broncos have riased their sights this year, and with the extended use of the internet, and Twitter, it looks like it is going to be another good year of recruiting. The Fiesta Bowl win could add some more juice to the recruiting class.
Next year the Broncos should enter the season ranked in both the AP and Coaches Polls. The BSU game against Washington and former Head Coach Chris Petersen will be one of the top games of the first weekend. BSU has lost their last couple of high profile openers to Washington and Ole Miss. A win in the Washington game would push the Broncos into the National Spotlight, and could launch another big bowl season. The rest of the schedule is winnable. All we need is a quarterback, a running back and a win on the blue in the opener.
