As the world knows, I have a new puppy. Her name is Shenzi and she is an adorable Chihuahua. Well, Shenzi has turned into a monster since we got her. She likes to chew up shoes, eat poison bug traps lying around the house, and run for blocks when you barely open up the door to the outside.
The most recent incident we experienced could've killed little Shenzi, so this is kind of her survival story. Whenever my boyfriend and I leave for work or to go to the store, we lock Shenzi up in her kennel. It used to sit against the wall in our bedroom. Well, one day we came back and found that the circuit breaker in our bedroom was out. Odd. Well, we opened up the kennel and Shenzi went running with excitement, but she was covered in blood and her kennel was too. It was soaked with blood and urine. After cleaning up the mess and checking out Shenzi's wound we did some investigating to see what happened. We found out she had chewed through the alarm clock wire plugged into an outlet on the wall right outside her kennel. She cut up her face, caused the power to go out, and sliced up the inside of her lip. Not to mention, she chewed through the wire, which electrocuted her, causing her to pee. Poor puppy was fine and dandy and nothing bothered her after that. But, we weren't going to pay to take her to the vet.
We watched her for a few days to see how she was, treated her lip and face with peroxide and neosporin. It took her about a week to eat dry food again, which I was glad because the wet food smells horrible. She eventually got her energy back and was running around and playing again. The lip healed and her face healed, except for the missing hair where it was. Not sure if that will even grow back. But I'm glad she is okay and we did move the kennel away from any walls or chords. Now we are considering taking her to an obidience class to teach her not to run and to behave. We'll see how that goes.
