It’s A Cheese Shop

I have known two people in my life who didn't like cheese.  And I don't mean they simply shunned unusual varieties of cheese like brie or camembert.  Neither of them would snack on cubes of cheddar, and neither one could stand having a slice of cheese added to any sandwich, including a hamburger.  I was even with one of them once when he ordered macaroni and cheese in a restaurant and asked if they could hold the cheese.

I'm not exactly what you'd call a "foodie", but I'm too adventurous to be what you'd call a "fussy eater".  Generally, in a restaurant, I'll order something exactly as it appears on the menu.  And I won't discuss it with the waiter.  I'll just choose something and take whatever shows up.  I don't mind if it has tomatoes or onions or mushrooms or most other ingredients.  I figure that if it didn't taste good, they wouldn't be selling it.  But then I mostly eat at places like the Sizzler or Applebee's.  I might not be as cavalier in a French or Japanese restaurant.  Or Greek.  Or Scottish.

Anyway, this morning I wondered if I could find a list of foods most hated by Americans somewhere on the Internet.  I didn't find that as such, but at answers.com I did find a list of the most polarizing foods.  These are foods that some people really love and others (lots of others) really hate:

 1.  Black licorice
 2.  Blue (or bleu) cheese
 3.  Onions
 4.  Coconut
 5.  Liver
 6.  Beets
 7.  Sushi
 8.  Cilantro
 9.  Olives
10.  Mayonnaise
11.  Tofu
12.  Mushrooms
13.  White chocolate
14.  Prunes
15.  Anchovies

At some point I have eaten all of this stuff, but I purposely avoid only a third of the list:  liver, sushi, tofu, prunes and anchovies.  But if I were starving, I'd eat them and enjoy them.

Some people (maybe you) would rather die first.
