Remembering Velma

A few years ago at church we held a fundraising rummage sale and silent auction to help underprivileged children.  We were hoping to make a few thousand dollars and had some good items in the auction.  Then Velma Morrison showed up.

She didn't announce who she was.  She just began bidding on various items.  And yes, she outbid everyone for every item she wanted.

To make a long story short (since I need to get to Big City Cafe), Velma bought a number of the auction's best items, then wrote a check for the kids to add to her total.  That day we made $150,000.  Without Mrs. Morrison, I think we would have made about $2,500.

If you want to know the best part of being rich, the ability to change lives just for fun might be it.
