Man’s Best Friend

In the Schneider family we have long had a tradition we call, "passing the torch".  We vary between owning one and two dogs,  buying a new pup when the present dog starts slowing down and showing signs of age. The new dogs learns the rules of the house from the old dog. This has worked to perfection for years. Our last three dogs have never pooped in the house,  or developed other habits that are not accepted from our canines.

The latest addition to the Schneider Stable is "Cub" who is taking his lessons from "Bear". Last night my daughter asked me, "how come all of our animals are named after Chicago sports teams?"

I said, "they are not, and get Bull the cat off the table, he is trying to nab Blackhawk the parakeet." Just kidding, but I do kind of like those names.

Cub is a Great Pyrenees. We bought him from a breeder who lives above Gardena, north of Horseshoe Bend. We picked him up the other night. Got the address from the breeder and drove blindly into the mountains. We left the pavement at Gardena and the roads got narrower and narrower until they disappeared from our GPS. The road actually ended on top of a mountain at the ranch where we picked up our pup.  We always pick the most shy dog in a litter. They seem to be more mellow when they mature. We also like big dogs because they seem to be gentler and have a better temperament than those little yappy dogs who go crazy when somebody rings the doorbell. People always say, they let us know when someone is coming to the house. Here is a tip, crooks seldom ring the doorbell.

Anyway, as we were getting ready to leave his breeder said, "his dad weighs about 180". Whew, guess I will be working for dog food for another several years.
