Get Busy Living

I take a lot of guff at the station due to my age. Radio has always been a haven for youngsters who like to kid the old timers like myself. With the advent of corporate radio, the opportunities for younger workers has lessened leading to an aging staff. It used to bother me that I was so much older than most of the others in the station group, but now I rather enjoy it. I love the good natured banter, "Hey Paul J, the short bus is here.", or "Paul J. the new walkers are in at WalMart." I must admit, I give back as much as I take.

A couple of days ago I saw part of an interview with the singer Sting. He really wrapped up what getting old is like. The 60 year old entertainer said, " I never imagined I could be so old. It is interesting how endearing it is, though, because you realize there aren't that many summers left, or winters, or experiences. So each experience you have is that much richer. You know as a kid, you take it for granted, its endless you know. I'll have many meals, I'll have many days, I'll make love many times. But when you get older, you think, hmmm, maybe I should concentrate. It has always been a part of my songwriting, these times passing."

After you get a few miles on you, you become part of a fraternity. You have made it this far, many haven't. There is a camaraderie among the older folks. Many days you fell just as good inside as you did when you were 20. Just don't try to run, and avoid that mirror.
Most of all, don't waste any days. We don't have time for those electronic gadgets, we have got living to do.
