Fireworks are not allowed on Idaho endowed lands

Those spending time on Idaho endowed lands during the Fourth of July holiday must leave fireworks at home and use caution with campfires.

Those are the rules, according to the Idaho Department of Lands, from May 10 until October 20 — the closed fire season.

If a wildfire starts because of fireworks, the person using the fireworks will be billed for the cost of the fire.

The Idaho Press reports, in the past two years, the Idaho Department of Lands has billed people for a total of $4.7 million as a result of wildfires started because of negligence.

Last year, about 80 percent of all wildfires started on land protected by the Idaho Department of Lands were due to human negligence and were thus preventable.
