Two people are behind bars following a high-speed chase in Ada County overnight.
Meridian Police say an officer tried to pull over a driver for speeding on Fairview Ave, but the driver took off reaching speeds of 80 mph.
Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea says the officer performed a PIT maneuver on Cole Road to stop the vehicle, “the driver of the vehicle, Dustin Trinkaus, fled the traffic stop but was caught about 100 yards away trying to climb over a fence. The passenger in the vehicle, Kathryn Cox, also attempted to flee but fell down and was taken into custody without incident.”
Police found meth, a measurement tray, syringes, and a large amount of cash in the car. Cox was arrested on drug charges. Trinkaus was charged with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing from police, DUI, and more. There was also a warrant for his arrest.
Basterrechea says it’s not wise to run from police, “we’re going to catch you, eventually. Whether it’s today or the next day.”
