Heads up for drivers in downtown Boise.

The City of Boise will begin their tiered parking rate system tomorrow (Wednesday) and that will increase some parking spots.

The area will be split into three zones, according to Craig Croner, the Administrative Services Manager, “in the outer areas the parking rates are also going down. It used to be historically a $1 an hour, but now it will be 50 cents for the first hour, 50 cents for the second hour, and you can get up to four hours. In the intermediate zone, it’ll have a rate that’s slightly higher. And then in the core it will have a rate that’s slightly higher than what the garages are.”

In detail: Zone 1 or the orange zone, will be $1.50 for the first hour and then $2.50 for the second hour. Zone 2 or the purple zone, will be $1 for the first hour and then $1.25 for the second hour. Zone 3 or the green zone, will be $.50 for the first and second hours and then $1 for the third and fourth hours.

Croner says the goal is to improve downtown congestion and encourage more drivers to use parking garages.
