A teacher for the Sage Valley Middle School resigned Monday after questions of his past caught up with him.
James Verity lost his teaching license in Oregon in 2006 after allegations that he had a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student.
Verity’s application for reinstatement was again denied in 2009, deeming him unfit to teach because he can’t be trusted around kids.
But in Idaho, he received a teaching license and had been teaching until Monday, when questions from reporters came up.
Sage Valley Middle School Principal Sean Smith says he didn’t know about Verity’s past, “we had absolutely no problems with him. He was an excellent science teacher, was loved by the kids, an contributed to the staff and his grade level team in an effective manner. He was a great employee.”
Smith says Verity resigned because he thought it was in the best interest of the school.
